You can request a Saudi family visit visa for your mother or father through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ published family visit service, subject to its requirements. For a resident host, these include a valid work iqama, rather than a dependant iqama. Start by checking your host status, your parent’s details and the stage of any existing application.

Sanad can help you review the information, identify name inconsistencies, organize the documents requested for your case and follow up on application notes within an agreed scope. Tell us where your parent is now and what you have already done, so we can identify the next useful step.

Which service covers a parent’s visit?

The MOFA family visit service names parents among the first-degree relatives covered. This article concerns a temporary visit. It does not establish eligibility for a parent to receive a dependant residence permit or promise conversion from a visit visa to an iqama.

If you are unsure which route matches your goal, our Arabic guide to bringing parents to Saudi Arabia explains the distinction. A separate question about a wife or child joining you as a resident is covered in our English family residence visa eligibility guide.

Check the resident host’s position first

MOFA’s published requirements include a valid work iqama for the resident applicant, first-degree family relationship, completion of the electronic application and electronic attestation by the employer or chamber of commerce as instructed by the service.

Application data should be entered in Arabic, with the stated exception for names of people of non-Arab nationalities: those names must match their passports. Check the current passport rather than copying a spelling from an old application. Follow the instructions shown for your case when completing and attesting the request.

A practical preparation checklist

The following is a preparation aid, not a universal list of mandatory attachments. The service and the authority handling your case determine what must actually be supplied.

  • Your host details: iqama type, validity and the information entered in the application.
  • Your parent’s passport details: current name, nationality, date of birth and passport number.
  • Relationship information: consistent family details and any proof specifically requested.
  • Document context: issuing country, original language and any instruction about translation or attestation.
  • An existing application: its reference, current status and the exact wording of any note.

Where a translation or attested document is requested, confirm the applicable requirements before paying for additional work. MOFA’s document attestation conditions address matters such as translation accuracy and correspondence with the original; they do not make one attestation chain applicable to every document and country.

Prepare, submit and follow up in stages

Before submitting

Open the official family visit service and follow its application link. Review each parent’s information individually, complete the required fields and follow the attestation instructions. Our Arabic parents’ visit preparation guide provides a more detailed review framework.

After submitting

Keep the application reference and a copy of the information supplied. If a note appears, read it before changing documents or starting another request. Identify the particular name, document or action it concerns, then follow the response channel specified for that application.

When contacting Sanad, sharing the wording of the note helps us understand the task. We can review what needs checking and explain the assistance available, rather than assuming that every delay has the same cause.

Approval, an issued visa and readiness to travel

These are separate checkpoints. Read the result to establish whether you have application approval, an issued entry visa or instructions for a further stage. Check the issued visa’s names, passport details, type and dates, and confirm any remaining requirements with the relevant authority or Saudi mission before arranging travel.

Allow for additional procedures rather than relying on a fixed completion date. When budgeting, distinguish the application service from any applicable visa, insurance, translation, attestation, travel and Sanad service charges. Ask what each quoted amount covers.

If your parent is already in Saudi Arabia

Review the current visa and permitted stay before deciding what assistance you need. A visit extension is a separate procedure from a residence question. The official Absher FAQs describe visit extensions and the Tawasul channel for relevant passport-service requests when an electronic procedure cannot be completed. An enquiry or pending request does not itself extend a permitted stay.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply for only my mother or only my father?

The published service includes parents and does not list a general requirement to bring both together. Review the intended visitor’s details and any case-specific instructions; this does not guarantee acceptance.

Can a resident on a dependant iqama use this service as the host?

MOFA’s stated requirement for the resident applicant is a valid work iqama, not a dependant iqama.

Does every document need translation and attestation?

No single checklist applies universally. Check the document’s language, issuing country and the receiving authority’s actual instructions.

How long can my parent stay?

Read the issued visa and applicable instructions. Entry validity, permitted stay and number of entries are different details; do not assume a fixed 90-day stay or automatic extension.

Can my parent’s visit visa be converted to residence?

A visit does not automatically grant residence. The sources used here do not establish a general conversion route for parents; obtain official confirmation of any proposed route before proceeding.
