Reviewed 7 October 2026 · Budgeting for family residence, rather than a temporary visit

Saudi family residence visa costs should be broken down by stage and by who receives the payment. An amount quoted for an application inside Saudi Arabia may leave out overseas processing, documents, medical examinations, residence-related charges or office assistance.

There is no verified all-inclusive price in this guide. Confirm each government charge in the official service for your case, then add the third-party work you actually need. This helps you compare quotes without paying twice for the same item.

For the process overview, start with our Saudi family residence visa guide. If you need help reviewing the work and its cost, Sanad offers family residence application assistance in English.

What belongs in a family residence visa budget?

The categories below are a budgeting framework. Their inclusion does not mean every family must pay every item.

Cost categoryWhat to confirmWhere to verify it
Saudi application or government chargesThe exact service, applicant and payment basis. The relevant official application and payment channel.
Embassy or authorised processing-centre chargesGovernment charges versus the centre’s service, delivery or optional charges. The Saudi mission and its designated provider for the application country.
Document preparationRequired translations, authentication, copies or document corrections. The official checklist and an itemised provider quote.
Medical examinationsWho needs an examination, the approved provider and what its price covers. The instructions for the overseas or Saudi residence stage.
InsuranceApplicable cover and the employer’s obligations before assuming a personal expense.HR, the insurer and official insurance guidance.
Dependent and residence-related chargesWhich charges apply, to whom, for which period and whether an exemption applies. The relevant official residence service and payment assessment.
Sanad or another office’s service feeThe agreed preparation, submission or follow-up work and exclusions. The office’s written quote.

Keep flights, temporary accommodation, schooling and other moving expenses in a separate part of your budget. They can affect affordability without being visa fees.

Government fees: check the service and scope

Before accepting a fee figure, establish what it buys. A visa application charge, a residence-permit charge and a recurring dependent charge are different items. A figure for a visit visa, a worker or a different residence service should not be transferred to your family’s application.

For each official payment, record:

  • The service name and authority receiving the payment.
  • The family member or application it relates to.
  • Whether it is per person, per application or calculated for a period.
  • The amount and currency currently shown.
  • Any stated exemption, validity period or refund condition.

Use the official channel identified for your application, such as Absher or the visa service linked by the Saudi mission. Retain the receipt and check the existing application before paying again after an error.

We have not verified a current, clearly scoped official fee schedule that supports quoting a universal family residence total here. An old fee table or a screenshot without its service name is not enough to establish what you owe now.

Document costs: establish the checklist first

Translation and authentication can be separate services, with separate invoices. Ask which documents require each step, which provider is accepted and whether charges are per document, page or copy. Check the order of the required steps before paying.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs attestation portal is an official reference for Saudi attestation procedures. Your document’s issuing country and the authority requesting it also matter. For preparation, use our family visa documents guide.

For example, if a marriage certificate has already been translated, first check whether that translation meets the current instructions. Do not automatically buy a second translation or assume the first one completes every authentication requirement.

Overseas processing and medical expenses

Find the Saudi mission responsible for the country where the family will apply through the official Saudi embassy directory. Confirm its current submission channel and request the applicable charge breakdown before booking.

Ask the designated provider whether a quote includes its service charge, applicable tax, passport return or courier service, and any optional appointment service. Where a medical examination is required, confirm the approved clinic and the required timing before paying for an appointment.

A package from one country should not be treated as the price for another country’s process. Keep government charges and provider charges separately labelled, even when one organisation collects both.

Insurance: check whether your employer must provide it

The Insurance Authority states that private-sector employers must insure their covered employees and eligible family members, and that the employer pays the applicable premiums. Insurance Authority FAQs.

Ask HR to confirm the family members covered and arrange the required activation before assuming that you must purchase a separate policy yourself. If a quote includes insurance, ask what policy it refers to and why it is needed. Insurance eligibility and visa eligibility are separate questions.

How much does Sanad charge?

Ask for a quote after explaining your current stage. A new application, a document review and follow-up on an existing request involve different work. We are not publishing an unconfirmed Sanad price or describing a government charge as an office fee.

For a useful quote, tell Sanad whether the family is abroad, which application stage you have reached and what assistance you need. Ask for:

  • The office fee and any applicable tax.
  • The specific work included, with government and third-party charges separated.
  • Which tasks and payments remain your responsibility.
  • Whether corrections or further follow-up are included.
  • When payment is due and the cancellation or refund terms.

Request an itemised quote in English

A practical way to compare two quotes

Put the same tasks side by side before comparing totals. One office may quote only for application preparation; another may include translation or a defined follow-up stage. Mark every item as included, excluded, already paid or awaiting confirmation.

Also separate one-time costs from later residence-related payments. Ask which period a recurring charge covers. Treat an unknown amount as outstanding in the budget rather than entering zero.

Keep a payment record with the date, payee, service, family member, amount, currency and receipt. This is a practical budgeting method, not an official application requirement.

Frequently asked questions

Is the amount quoted inside Saudi Arabia the full family visa cost?

Only if the quote clearly includes all the relevant stages and expenses. Ask whether overseas processing, document work, medical examinations and any later residence-related charges are included.

Are children’s charges always the same as adults’?

Do not assume that. Check the age and applicant conditions of each specific service. A charge for one age category does not establish the whole cost for every child.

Will a rejected application mean every payment is refunded?

Check each payee’s terms before payment. A government payment, completed translation and office service may have different refund rules. Obtain the terms for the actual transaction rather than relying on a general promise.

Does paying an office guarantee approval?

No. An office fee pays for the agreed assistance. Official decisions remain with the authorities. Read our English assistance page for the support Sanad can discuss.
