Want your wife or children to live with you in Saudi Arabia instead of remaining on a family visit visa? Before paying for a “visit visa conversion” service, identify which residence route actually applies to your family. An extension, a new family residence visa and an in-country change of status are different procedures.

Quick answer: Converting a family visit visa to Iqama is not a general option for every visitor. Jawazat has rejected general conversion requests, while separately confirming a route for children under 18 when both parents hold legal residency. Your family relationship, the child’s age and the parents’ residence status matter. Check the applicable instructions with Jawazat before treating your case as eligible.

Family Visit Visa to Iqama: What Do the Terms Mean?

A family visit visa is for a temporary family visit. An Iqama is a residence permit, also called a Resident ID. A family residence visa relates to bringing eligible dependants to Saudi Arabia for residence. Searching for “permanent family visa” often leads to this family sponsorship process; it should not be confused with an unrestricted right to permanent residency.

Can a Wife’s Family Visit Visa Be Converted to Iqama?

Do not assume that a wife’s visit visa can be converted simply because her husband has an Iqama. In an April 2026 response to a visitor-to-resident enquiry, Jawazat said the instructions did not allow the change. A separate response to a family visit conversion enquiry was also negative. These responses do not establish a general conversion service for spouses. See the reported April 2026 Jawazat response and family visit visa clarification.

If your enquiry concerns your wife, explain her current visa type, your residency status and any official decision already issued. Ask which residence route applies, including whether departure and a new entry visa are required. Obtain that answer before arranging travel around an assumed conversion.

Can Children on a Family Visit Visa Get an Iqama?

Jawazat’s customer service response dated 12 December 2025 states that children under 18 can have their visit visas converted to residency when both parents hold legal residency. This is a specific family situation, not a rule covering all visitors. The response is reproduced in Ajel’s report of the Jawazat clarification.

When asking about a child, provide their age and the residence status of each parent. If one parent is on a visit visa, a parent’s residency has expired or the child is 18 or older, seek a separate official assessment rather than relying on this clarification. The short response does not provide a complete document checklist, total fee or processing deadline.

How to Check Your Next Step Through Absher and Jawazat

Absher’s official Passports services guide lists Tawasul as a channel for submitting requests to the Passports department and enquiring about them. It also lists residence permit issuance and visit visa extension as separate services.

  1. Identify the case: spouse or child, age, nationality, current visa type, location and expiry date.
  2. Read the current service instructions: use the relevant options available in your own Absher account. Menu wording and available categories may vary.
  3. Ask a precise question: describe the family’s status and request confirmation of the correct procedure and required documents. Use Jawazat’s request channel where appropriate.
  4. Keep the reference and response: follow the instructions given for your case and respond to any request for additional information.

A submitted request is not an approval. Seeing an Iqama issuance service in Absher also does not, by itself, establish that a visitor qualifies for conversion.

What Information Should You Prepare for a Case Review?

For a useful first conversation with Sanad, have the following information available. This is a preparation checklist for reviewing your case, not a universal government document list:

  • The visitor’s relationship to you, nationality and age.
  • The exact visa type, current location and permitted stay expiry shown in the official record.
  • Your Iqama status and, for a child’s case, the other parent’s residency status.
  • Whether marriage or birth records are available, and whether names match the passports.
  • Any previous application reference, official reply or error message.
  • The step you need help with: understanding eligibility, preparing documents, submission or follow-up.

Begin with a short description. If you send a screenshot of an error, hide unrelated personal information. Keep your Absher password and verification codes private; any assistance should use the appropriate authorised process.

What If Your Visit Visa Is About to Expire?

Treat the visitor’s current stay deadline as a separate issue from your residence enquiry. Do not assume that asking about conversion extends the visit or changes the visa status. Check the current official record and the applicable extension or departure instructions promptly.

Absher provides a visit visa extension service subject to its conditions. An extension keeps the person on visit status; it does not itself issue an Iqama. Check the official Absher FAQs for the extension service, and include the expiry date when contacting Sanad so the immediate issue is clear.

What If In-Country Conversion Is Not Available?

The next conversation should focus on a suitable family residence application route. Absher’s Expatriate Affairs services include appointments for resident family sponsorship. Your case may require a different sequence from an in-country request, so establish the steps before spending on bookings or extra documents.

How Much Does Family Visit Visa Conversion Cost, and How Long Does It Take?

First establish that a procedure is available for your case. The official clarifications cited here do not provide one conversion price or one completion time for all families. A useful quotation should explain the proposed work, the office’s service fee and any separate government or third-party charges that apply.

Ask what the quoted stage covers: document preparation, submission, follow-up or permit issuance. Ask what happens if more information is requested. A payment receipt or application number should not be presented as proof that residency has been approved.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a multiple-entry family visit visa the same as an Iqama?

No. Multiple-entry describes the visit visa’s entry arrangements. It does not make the holder a resident or establish eligibility for an in-country change of status.

Is there an Absher button that converts every family visit visa?

The services cited above do not establish a universal conversion button. Use the instructions applicable to your case and seek clarification if the appropriate service is unclear.

Can Sanad guarantee approval or completion within a few days?

No government approval or fixed completion date should be assumed before the case is assessed. Contact Sanad to discuss what assistance is available and what the proposed work includes.

What should I write in my first WhatsApp message?

“I need help with a family visit visa to Iqama enquiry. The visitor is my [wife/son/daughter], aged [age]. Their visa expires on [date]. My residency status is [status]. I am stuck at [step]. Please assist me in English.” For a child, add the other parent’s residency status.
